1. Copyright is a form of protection for an individuals work, it gives them exclusive rights to distribute it and ensures that they will receive proper credit when others use it. As a teacher, I would make sure to teach my students about copyright laws and fair use. When creating my own materials I would make sure to use public resources and properly attribute any content I get from a third-party. For students, I would encourage them to use original ideas and teach them how to properly cite other's work. I have always been aware of copyright laws and fair use, as I have always been taught about plagiarism and how to avoid it.
2. While technology is a great tool to have and can be very beneficial to both teachers and students, it is important to acknowledge technology implementation issues that may arise. One issue is that of student's privacy. It is important to protect student's information and academic records. One solution to this issue could be to implement restrictions on student browsing sites. By doing this, we limit the probability of students going on sketchy, or unsafe sites that may compromise their personal information and put their privacy at risk.
3. We all know that generative AI programs such as ChatGPT have been gaining popularity among students and classrooms. Students are turning to AI to help complete assignments. I think AI can both help and hurt students learning. AI is a great tool to have when used properly, however some students abuse it. AI can help clarify concepts and help students brainstorm ideas. It allows students to receive instant access to information. However, becoming too reliant on AI can hurt students in the long run, killing their creativity and diminishing their critical thinking skills. AI also brings up the issue of academic dishonesty, as many students submit AI generated work as their own.
4. Working on the Newsletter Design helped to refresh my skills in Word. I have always been one to use google docs on school assignments, force of hold habit. However working on this assignment allowed me to regain familiarity with Word. I used many different tools such as shapes, columns, footers, etc. In the future I think I could focus more on the aesthetic of the overall newsletter, as for this I was more concerned about integrating all the required information from the checklist. The skills I learned from this assignment can benefit me if I go on to become a teacher because I can design my own papers and assignments in a way that will grab both the students and parents attention. I learned different techniques and tools I can use to create a format that will be well received.
