1. I first started using social media as a way to stay up to date on trends and as a fun way to communicate with friends. Now, I have expanded my use of social media and try to use it as a tool to expand my personal learning network. I like to get create inspiration off of Pinterest, coming up with cool activities and designs that I can use in my projects. I use Instagram less, and now like to use LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a great way to make connections and meet people in your field. It helps to open up work opportunities.
2. I would say that growing up, I went to a digitally rich school. For as long as long as I can remember, technology has always been incorporated in my classrooms. I think the use of technology throughout my K-12 journey definitely helped to prepare me for college. For example, I had to take a DIT class in high school. In this class I learned how to navigate my way through excel, word, and PowerPoint, earning certifications in all three. The knowledge I gained from it definitely benefitted me in college as it gave me a strong foundation to apply in higher level classes.
3. I think collaborative writing and social annotation are very beneficial to students' learning experience. Some software tools that I would like to implement in my classroom to support this are google docs and padlet. I think both are fairly easy to use and create an interactive learning experience for students. It is good for kids to be able to collaborate and share ideas with one another. These softwares facilitate that. I would use these tools to when teaching a reading lesson, having the kids annotate documents and post their thoughts on padlet. I would give them a tutorial on how to use both softwares so that they feel comfortable and confident in their ability to use these tools.
